Ontario has a rich history of supporting regional youth science fairs. Schools around the province hold annual science fairs, attracting an estimated 25,000 Ontario youth. The top projects from these school fairs go on to compete at the regional level in one of the 28 Regional Science Fairs in Ontario.

Youth Science Ontario provides support to the Regional Science Fair system in Ontario through a range of programs and supports for youth and community volunteers. This support includes:

• Awards for top projects at the Regional Science Fairs
• Grants for promoting and enhancing Regional Science Fairs
  
• Sponsorship of one top scientist from each region to attend the Canada-Wide Science Fair
• Sponsorship of Team Ontario at the Canada-Wide Science Fair
• Ongoing development of Science Fair in a Box, a logistics and operational software program for managing Regional Science Fairs
• An annual youth science volunteer development conference
• The Annual Showcase event which brings Team Ontario members and their families to Toronto to showcase their projects and success
