Youth Science Ontario’s 3rd Annual Regional Science Fair Volunteers Conference was a success. The 2-day event was attended by over 60 volunteers and an unprecedented 26 out of 30 regions were represented.
The conference started off on Friday, October 16th with a banquet dinner at Four Points Sheraton Hotel. Youth Science Ontario’s new logo was proudly revealed and well received. Each attending region shared their Regional Introduction slide and spoke of their science fair successes and challenges. The evening wrapped up with more informal networking in the hospitality suite with an unexpectedly large yet pleasant turnout.
Day 2 was held at Humber College where a total of 9 workshops were presented. Participants were provided with valuable insights into such topics as Volunteer Management and Recruitment, Fundraising, Open Inquiry-based Science in the Classroom, Science Olympics and Innovation programs, and SFIAB (Science Fair in a Box) applications. We also had one truly hands-on session building robots and other electronic Lego creations with representatives from the FIRST Lego League.
The conference also gave Youth Science Ontario and Youth Science Canada an opportunity to announce a number of Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation funded programs. One such program is Youth Science Ontario’s Promotion Grant which is now available on the Member’s Resources Page of our website.
Thank you to all who attended the conference and made it fun. See you again next year!
