Since 2005, Hydro One has partnered with Youth Science Ontario in celebrating Ontario’s young scientists through sponsorship of the on-going Hydro One Energy Ambassador Award. In addition, commencing in 2010, Hydro One will also support the promotion of youth science through sponsorship of our Science Olympics program.

The Hydro One Energy Ambassador Award provides $100 per region for a project of outstanding scientific quality where the primary focus is the distribution, supply-management, use or conservation of electrical energy or other forms of energy. The Science Olympics program aims to introduce extracurricular Science Olympics events in cooperation with local/regional community groups in areas where such events are not available to youth. A special focus is placed on geographically isolated communities with students of cultural diverse and lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Hydro One, one of North America’s largest electricity delivery companies, holds a strong corporate commitment to providing charitable support to the communities they service. Among the many charitable programs they independently administer is the PowerPlay grant program in which funds are provided to build new and renovate existing facilities where the primary purpose is to support children  community sports and active play.

In addition to Science Ontario, Hydro One partners with other non-profit organizations including Let’s Talk Science and Scientists in School.When asked why it’s important to include supporting youth science as part of their corporate charitable commitment, Sheelagh Lawrance, Manager of Community Citizenship replies, “Supporting programs such as Youth Science Ontario’s Science Olympics help create science literate citizens which is important to our economy and important to Hydro One. We depend upon engineers, technologists, and technicians to deliver safe reliable electricity to homes and businesses throughout Ontario.”

In recognition of their sponsorship, Youth Science Ontario is proud to identify Hydro One as a Key Sponsor of Youth Science Ontario at all events, including our high-profile Annual  Showcase. Hydro One is also identified as our Lead Corporate Sponsor at all Science Olympics events. As a key sponsor, Hydro One will continue to receive invitation to personally present their Energy Ambassador Award at any of the current 29 regional science fairs, and to speak at Youth Science Ontario events.  Year-round recognition is extended through words of acknowledgement and placement of their corporate logo on Youth Science Ontario’s website, event posters, press releases, and printed materials such as letterhead, newsletters, and promotional brochures.
