Alyson Bell, a senior at Lakefield District Secondary School, is one of 2 Team Ontario participants awarded a prestigious Manning Award for Innovation (see also, success story for Amy-Jayne Hutchings).
Every year since 1982, the Ernest C. Manning Award Foundation has recognized Canadians who developed and successfully marketed a new concept, process or procedure. In addition, through its Young Canadian Program, the foundation recognizes up-and-coming inventors at the high school level. The award-winning students this year were selected at the Canada Wide Science Fair in May.
Alyson’s winning project, titled “Another Tale My Grandfather Told Me”, is also the recipient of the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories Award, presented by Youth Science Ontario and the award’s sponsor, Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories (OAML) at the Peterborough Regional Science Fair this year. The project presented the invention of an oregano water filter, which uses the herb to clean bacteria out of contaminated water.
Alyson was presented her Manning Award along with her fellow award-winning inventors on September 17th, 2010, in Ottawa. Congratulations, Alyson!
