Team Canada - ISEF 2011 Selected

Youth Science Ontario Success Story

Ten Team Ontario students will join their peers from British Colombia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Quebec to make up Team Canada-ISEF 2011. Twenty of Canada’s top high school students have been selected in March as part of Youth Science Month to represent the country at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) May 8-13 in Los Angeles, California.

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF)—the world's largest pre-college science competition—provides an opportunity for the best young scientists from around the globe to share ideas, showcase cutting-edge science projects, and compete for over $4 million in awards and scholarships.

Congratulations and good luck to our Team Ontario scientists who will compete at ISEF 2011. They are:

  • Dheevesh Arulmani of Mississauga, with his project: Photoelectrochemical Approach to PEM Fuel Cells Using Hydrodynamic Voltammetry. Dheevesh is an ISEF veteran winning two awards at last year’s ISEF and was a participant at the 2010 Youth Science Ontario Showcase.
  • Adelina Corina Cozma of Richmond Hill, with her project: Growing Up 'In Sync': Connecting a Bridge to an Autistic Mind's World. Adelina is an ISEF veteran winning two awards at last year’s ISEF and is the winner of the UOIT Innovation Award at the 2010 York Sci-Tech Fair.
  • Howard Feng of Richmond Hill, with his project: Identification of Ezrin as a Colonic Substrate for Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Sigma (σ). Howard is the winner of the Hydro One Networks Energy Ambassador Award at the 2010 York Region Sci-Tech Fair.
  • Emma Graham of Ottawa, with her project: The Role of Oncogenic Lesions in Epithelial to Mesenchymal Transition in Ovarian Cancer. Emma is the winner of the Environmental Management Fourth Award at last year’s ISEF and the OAML Award at the 2010 Ottawa Regional Science Fair.
  • Michael Lemanski of Toronto, with his project: The Mysterious Behavior of KF3- and its Relevance to 41Ca Analysis.
  • Lexie Penny of Grimsby, with her project: Niagara Region's Environmental Impact on Water Quality of Lake Ontario. Lexie was a participant at the 2010 Youth Science Ontario Showcase.
  • Lauren Reid of Uxbridge, with her project: Reducing the Cut-In Wind Speed of Wind Turbine Blades by Redirecting the Boundary Layer Airflows. Lauren is the winner of the Stepping Stone Award at the Durham Regional Science Fair and was a participant at the 2010 Youth Science Ontario Showcase.
  • Megan Schlorff of Hanover, with her project: Winds of Change: A Novel Approach to Wind Electricity Generation Systems for Developing Regions. Megan is the first student in 27 years from the Bluewater Science and Technology Fair to be chosen for Team Canada-ISEF and was a participant at the 2010 Youth Science Ontario Showcase.
  • Janelle Tam & Vivienne Tam of Waterloo, with their project: Cellulose Crystals Clean and Cure. Janelle and Vivienne are ISEF veterans winning the Team Projects Third Award at last year’s ISEF.
  • Grace Wang of London, with her project: Modulation of ERK5 in Inhibiting Breast Cancer Cell Migration and Invasion. Grace was a participant at the 2010 Youth Science Ontario Showcase.
